Cutting-Edge Recycling Project in the City of Arad

The Ruderman Family Foundation has been instrumental in creating a one-of-a-kind environmental project in Israel called “Arad - Recycling City”. The project, which is based in Arad in the Negev region of Israel, is enhancing the city's pro-environment activity by positioning it as a shining example for modern recycling throughout the entire country.

The project will create a broad and sustainable recycling system for the city of Arad, in a way Israel hasn’t yet seen. As a result of this project’s efforts, combined with other projects planned for the city, we will be shaping a green image for Arad, enhancing the quality of life for its residents, and helping to bring new residents to the city from all over the country.

The goals of this project include:

  • Introducing a recycling system developed by a professional environmental engineering company, and then implementing it city-wide.
  • Providing education and awareness on the importance of environmental preservation to Arad residents, concentrating on children in the city’s school system.
  • Involving Arad residents in the planning and implementation of the recycling efforts.
  • Branding Arad as an “eco-oasis” and attracting an environmentally conscious population to the city.

“Arad - Recycling City” is a joint initiative with the city of Arad, the Eastern Negev Environmental Unit, and the Or Movement. Funds for the project have been provided by the Ruderman Family Foundation, the Jewish National Fund (JNF), the Ministry for Environmental Protection, and the Arad Municipality. The project is expected to be completed in 2010.
