Launched in 2009, the Ruderman Knesset Fellows Program – Strengthening the Relationship: Israeli Political Leaders and the American Jewish Community provides a unique opportunity for Members of Knesset to acquire first-hand knowledge of the American Jewish community, its priorities, challenges and sensibilities. Gaining a stronger understanding and appreciation of the community, Ruderman Fellows graduates provide an informed and sensitive cohort within the Knesset on this critical relationship moving forward.
To date, three 5-day study trips to Boston and New York City have taken place (in 2011, 2012 and 2014) with 17 Knesset participants from across the political spectrum. Meetings included top Jewish community leaders and activists, philanthropic, academic and cultural circles, Jewish students and other young leaders and entrepreneurs and public Town Hall events in Boston and New York.
The Ruderman Fellows Program is advanced through close cooperation with a distinguished Israeli Advisory Committee, including Minister for Regional Development Silvan Shalom (Likud-Israel Beitenu); Minister for Education Shai Piron (Yesh Atid); Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Fania Kirshenbaum (Likud-Israel Beitenu); Former Minister of Welfare MK Isaac Herzog (Labor); MK Ilan Gilon (Meretz); and MK Ayelet Shaked (Habayit Hayehudi).
